During the Holiday Season, should you realize that a child has spilled Kool-Aid, or perhaps, a guest accidentally spilled red wine on your carpet, do not despair. A simple trick using simple table salt and newspaper will do the trick.
Simply cover the spot with table salt, you will need to cover the entire spot, so keep on pouring. After you have covered the spot, place newspaper down onto the carpet and put pressure on it. I ususally stand on it in different areas. Keep on repeating the procedure until the spot is gone.
Should the spot be a little more determined than you are. You can pour the salt until you have a mound, again place the newspaper on it or a dampened towel, wait 24 hours, and the spot should dissapear.
Try it, it beats having to get in a professional carpet cleaner to remove a simple stain.

That is a good idea, I did not know that. Thank you.
Sounds great, but will this work for coffee, spilled a whole cup by my bed Thursday, but could not get back to it till Friday and now I think it is stained, any ideas?
To take care of a set stain, try Oxi-Clean. I usually put it in a container just large enough to place an old rag in. I usually cut up and tear old towels that are frayed.
After you have gotten your rag good and wet from the solution, squeeze the solution over the stain. After this, I then place the same rag over the spot and blot and rub slightly.
